These are three double page spreads for a graphics assignment I just finished. The assignment was to represent a community that you are somehow involved in. I work at an art gallery so I thought it would be a fun and interesting community to represent. I am not trying to just show the life of a private gallery, but also the wanky nature of the art world and those involved in it. This tells a story of a new artist who comes to a gallery, has to meet and greet in order to form those crucial connections and in return gets judged and criticized for his work. I didn’t include the front page because it looks strange backwards.

This is a section of my last project of the term. A community initiative about composting illustrated like a comic. Boring, maybe but fun, yes.

This is the final box I made to hold all my collected lost things. It’s made from ply wood and it’s deliberately finished to look like it is old and decaying on the outside to contrast with the light wood on the inside.

This is a cover design I submitted to a competition at uni. It’s for a diary cover as I’m sure you could probably decipher by your own means. I had great plans of adapting it with computer illustrations and playing around with some typography for the pot and apples but, I didn’t have enough time so I just made a painting. I just thought I should try and enter something at the college.

I have started writing a book.

It’s going to be a travel novel about the trip I’m taking to Europe in a month. It’s going to be influenced by Bill Bryson and David Sedaris but focus more on art hopefully. I’ve written a few chapters but I’ve got nothing else to write yet till I leave. Maybe I’ll post a chapter when it develops.

I’ve recently started off a sketchbook to get me to draw something every day. Hopefully it’ll improve my drawing skills. This is one of the first drawings I did of a shell, I like the little barnacle things on it.

This is the wearable I made: it’s a sleeve piece/gauntlet. It explores how families change through time and culture. I redesigned the Tabuteau family crest and used other symbols to represent my family’s move from Celtic to Modern French to Australian. I used rusted metal because I like the contrast of clear paint on its rough surface. The veins represent family tree lines leading down to the family crest as a ‘heart.’ The piece is called Wearing Your Heart On Your Sleeve.

This is a block of balsa wood i carved to look like a log. It’s a comment on why humans always have master their surroundings and environment.

Speaking of old, degraded things that I collect, this is a small snippet of my rusty objects collection. I collect these decaying bits of metal and such because of their interesting, individual aesthetic and to use in artworks or designs. I have used them on a wearable I will show soon and the collection will also be the subject of one of my next more practical designs.

These are a series of models and a graphic I made to represent the experience of coffee. I found old used coffee cups and cut symbols out of them to represent people’s coffee drinking experiences. They either slowly enjoyed the coffee or rapidly ingested it just for the caffeine hit. I tried to express how this individual’s experience would look.
